The board of directors of the Foundation of Collier County Medical Society (CCMS) is pleased to announce that Charlotte Gerrity, Naples resident and class of 2021 at Duke University School of Medicine, is the winner of their 2017 Dr. William Lascheid Memorial Scholarship for Medical Students.
The $12,500 award recognizes future physicians who are Florida residents and have demonstrated excellence in community service, in memory of Neighborhood Health Clinic co-founder and CCMS Past President Dr. Lascheid. It is the third year the Foundation has provided this scholarship.
“A major focus of our Foundation is to provide much-needed financial assistance to our community’s future medical professionals,” said Dr. Rolando Rivera, Foundation Chair. “Charlotte exemplifies Dr. Lascheid’s compassion and dedication to caring for the underserved, and we are honored for the privilege of awarding her this scholarship.”
Charlotte received her diploma from Gulf Coast High School and her Bachelor of Science at University of Miami. Her community service activities have included volunteering with the David Lawrence Center assisting patients, the William W. Sandler Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Education as a peer educator, and the University of Miami Model United Nations, encouraging students to educate themselves on global health issues.
“I am so grateful and honored to be the recipient of the Dr. William Lascheid Memorial Scholarship,” said Charlotte. “It means so much to me to have the support of the Foundation of Collier County Medical Society in the pursuit of my medical education, and I would like to thank the Foundation for helping me work towards my goal of serving and strengthening my community as a physician.”
The Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization launched by the Collier County Medical Society in 2012, with the mission to provide support and leadership to programs that address access to healthcare, promote health education and serve the community’s public health needs. The Foundation’s signature fundraiser, the Docs & Duffers Golf Tournament on September 23, 2017, will help raise funds for its scholarship program and local healthcare programs in need.
